It is not mandatory to currently lack a legal entity or to be in the process of forming one for the business.

Furthermore, it is not mandatory to already have a developed solution.

However, the maturity level of the submitted solutions will be positively evaluated, as will the track record of both the submitting team/company and its executives.

Registration can be done here. An email and personal details of the applicant are required.

After the initial registration, a confirmation link for registration will be sent to the declared email.

Eligibility

Research teams from academic institutions, business entities (startups and SMEs), consortia thereof, as well as groups of individuals with relevant solutions can participate.

You can submit as many entries as you wish to the Innovation Program, both per thematic area and for the entire Program, through the information system.

There is no limit to the number of teams. However, for a substantial proposal addressing the challenges, it is recommended that teams consist of at least three individuals or at least groups of people who possess the relevant experience and/or ability to implement the proposed solution.

The monetary prize is linked to the implementation of the pilot project and will be awarded after the potential conclusion of a cooperation agreement with the IPTO Implementation Directorate.

Submission

For eligibility, please refer to the answer to Q1 in the eligibility category. For the proposal, please refer to the answer to Q2 below.

Yes, the submission system will include fields for the content of your proposal. A presentation with a suggested structure of approximately 10 slides for the proposal will also be required.

Following an extension requested by a large number of interested parties, the Program has a revised submission deadline of September 1, 2024, at 23:59, via the information system.

A proposal’s maximum score will be 100 points, based on the evaluation criteria:

  • TECHNICAL PART OF PROPOSAL (Technological Maturity & Innovation of the proposed solution)
  • MANAGEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION PART OF PROPOSAL (Team/company’s ability to implement the PoC, and required development resources)
  • SOLUTION INTEGRATION CAPABILITY BY IPTO (Solution relevance to challenges, and ability to integrate it into IPTO)

The five highest-scoring proposals will be invited to the final. The presentation at the final will be taken into account for the selection of the distinguished teams that will proceed to negotiations for a cooperation agreement with IPTO.

The TRL level refers to the technological maturity of a solution that you are already developing or utilizing in a different environment and can adapt with appropriate customizations for the purposes of the Program.

Therefore, if you have already developed or are developing a relevant technology/solution, it will be positively evaluated, and its description is recommended during your submission.

Question 3.9 concerns the justification of your choice in the previous question {3.8 Development status of your solution (Technological Readiness Level – TRL)}, aiming for you to justify/prove why you selected the XX TRL level, e.g., you have already developed a similar fully functional solution (TRL-9) for another purpose, and with appropriate customizations, it can be utilized by IPTO.

Innovation in Pylon Maintenance

There is a possibility to provide both photos and data – a relevant dataset; however, this will occur at a later stage for the distinguished team.

Yes, the photos provided for analysis cover different distances, including both close-up and long-range shots.

The main defect currently being examined is the oxidation of electricity transmission pylons.

IPTO has the capability to provide a categorized database, which will be given at a later stage to the distinguished team.

The photos to be processed will be categorized (they will contain the necessary information, e.g., which pylon they refer to, which line). The report (technical report) that the entity would like to receive through the developed solution should include a report registry (e.g., spreadsheet type) which will contain the necessary data, and when exported, these will be accompanied by an indicator showing the degree of corrosion.

Image processing is not a limitation.

Any proposed solution that addresses the pylon maintenance problem with a different technology or methodology is acceptable and will be evaluated by the organizing team.

Innovation in Training

Yes, the ability to provide evaluation upon completion of employee training through the VR application will be positively evaluated.

Yes, the ability to customize and expand according to training needs or stages through scenarios will be positively evaluated. However, at this stage, scenarios are a secondary need.

Prizes - Participation Benefits

IPTO offers support for PoC development up to €20,000 with the prospect of concluding a cooperation agreement for the best proposed solution. Therefore, this is not a monetary prize but funding for technological solution development and the opportunity to enter into a cooperation agreement for its integration into IPTO’s infrastructure.

Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Development

IPTO offers support for PoC development up to €20,000 with the prospect of concluding a cooperation agreement for the best proposed solution.

Networking

Develop collaborative relationships with experienced personnel from the organization. Promote your solution through the Program and establish contacts within the Innovation and Startup Ecosystem.

Impact

Contribute with your solutions to addressing critical and contemporary challenges and become part of creating the Transmission System of “Tomorrow”.

The amount of €20,000 can be utilized for the implementation needs of this, and thus for the development of your technological solution. In any case, the payment procedure will be determined during the contract signing process with the distinguished solution/case.
